Bankstown Council's planning evolution and documents

Timeline

• 2005 September — NSW Government introduced planning reform legislation to standardise the NSW planning system. A major reform relevant to the City of Bankstown is to convert Bankstown Local Environmental Plan 2001 to a Standard Instrument that is common to all councils.
• 2005 October — Council resolved to convert Bankstown LEP 2001 to the Standard Instrument Principal LEP in two stages.
  1. Convert Bankstown LEP 2001 to the Standard Instrument Principal LEP template (of the NSW Govt.)
  2. Review Council's planning controls to implement the NSW Govt's Metropolitan Plan for Sydney 2036, which directs all councils to accommodate a share of Sydney's projected population growth.
     No consideration is allowed of whether that growth is wise or could be avoided, for instance by Federal Govt policy change.
• 2006 May — Council submits the section 54 notification to the Department of Planning & Infrastructure.
• 2008 October — Council carries out the section 62 consultation with state agencies.
• 2009 August — The Department of Planning & Infrastructure announces Bankstown is a non–priority council.
  Sounds like new-speak for "they are conforming to our wishes, no further need to beat them"
• 2009 October — Council publishes their Residential Development Study.
• 2011 February — Council publishes the Bankstown Community plan 2021.
• 2011 December — Council submits the section 64 notification to the Department of Planning & Infrastructure.
• 2013 April — Council publishes their Area Issues Papers.
• 2013 August — Council exhibits the Draft Standard Instrument Local Environmental Plan.
• 2014 February — Council adopts the Draft Standard Instrument Local Environmental Plan.
• 2014 October — Council publishes their Local Area Plans.
  Council also finally makes some effort to inform their residents of all this.
